Gaza’s civil defense agency announced on Tuesday that an Israeli military operation in Khan Yunis has resulted in the deaths of approximately 300 people since its initiation on July 22. Agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal reported that many of the bodies recovered were in a decomposed state.
The Israeli military launched the assault to target rocket fire coming from the Khan Yunis area, which has seen significant conflict earlier this year. The operation aimed to address threats from Hamas and other militant groups.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declared the operation complete, stating they had killed "over 150 terrorists" and dismantled terror tunnels, weapons storage sites, and other terrorist infrastructure. They also recovered weapons during the operation.
Previously, the IDF reported retrieving the bodies of five Israelis killed by Hamas attacks on October 7, who had been taken into Gaza.
As displaced Palestinians leave western Khan Yunis for safer areas in the city’s eastern regions, the humanitarian situation remains dire amid ongoing tensions and violence.
