The Maldives has welcomed over 100,000 tourists so far this month, marking a significant rise in visitor numbers, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The total indicates a 3% increase compared to the same period last year, highlighting the country's enduring popularity as a global travel destination.

Between January 1 and September 24, more than 1.4 million tourists visited the Maldives, representing a 9.9% increase from the 1.3 million visitors during the same period in 2023. Specifically, from September 1 to 24, the Maldives recorded 104,275 tourist arrivals, up from 101,233 during the same period last year.

The top five countries contributing the highest number of tourists were:
1. China – 214,102 tourists
2. Russia – 159,129 tourists
3. United Kingdom – 124,662 tourists
4. Italy – 105,839 tourists
5. Germany – 104,196 tourists

According to the Ministry of Tourism, there are currently 1,228 facilities catering to tourists across the Maldives, with a combined bed capacity of 62,900. On average, the Maldives receives over 5,000 tourists daily, with visitors staying for an average of 7.7 days.

The steady growth in tourism reinforces the Maldives’ reputation as a top travel destination, and the sector continues to be a key driver of the country's economy.
