Internal Security and Technology Minister Ali Ihusaan announced today that the state has recovered more than MVR 1 billion in foreigners' fees.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office, Ihusaan revealed that as of June 3, MVR 1.7 billion in visa fees, work permit fees, quota fees, and penalties had not been collected.
Of that amount, MVR 703 million remains outstanding, while over MVR 1 billion has been successfully recovered so far.
Ihusaan also mentioned that the Expat system will be utilized to assist companies and private individuals in paying any pending fees.
The recovery effort began on June 3 of this year, and the government has introduced an option for foreign workers to pay their dues and penalties in installments within a set period.
