The Central Bank of Maldives Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has denied social media rumors on forged MVR 500 currency notes circulation.

Following the question raised over the concerns on forged currency notes circulation, MMA has assured that forged MVR 500 currency notes were not being circulated in the nation. Officials from MMA said that the currency notes were taken to MMA for investigation, and upon investigation, it has been clear that the currency notes in question were legit.

Officials from MMA said that although the photo of the currency note circulated on social media has a slight discoloration, the currency note is valid.

The current notes used in the Maldives, named Ran Dhiha Faheh (Golden 50), were introduced in 2015, with modern security features. The new currency notes, made out of polymer, replaced the previous currency notes.
