Maldives' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, participated in a preparatory Foreign Ministers’ meeting today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ahead of the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit scheduled for November 11, 2024.

In his remarks, Minister Dr. Khaleel expressed grave concern over the intensifying violence and suffering faced by the Palestinian people, citing the escalating humanitarian crisis. Highlighting the collective duty of the Islamic Ummah to address this crisis, he urged for action that extends beyond statements of solidarity. Dr. Khaleel called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for ongoing violations of international and humanitarian laws and emphasized the need for diplomatic measures through bodies such as the UN Security Council and the International Court of Justice.

Minister Dr. Khaleel reiterated the Maldives' commitment to collaborating with Islamic nations in the pursuit of justice and peace for Palestinians. He also stressed that a sustainable solution includes the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The summit, organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in coordination with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States, aims to explore concrete actions to address the humanitarian crises affecting Palestine and Lebanon.
