The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Qatar Red Crescent Society have formalized an agreement to allocate $100,000 from the Zakat Fund of the Maldives to support the people of Gaza.
The Islamic Ministry announced that the agreement was signed during an online ceremony. The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, signed on behalf of the ministry, while Secretary General Faisal Mohammed Al-Madi represented the Qatar Red Crescent Society.
According to the ministry, the funds will be transferred in two payments to the Qatar Red Crescent Society. The allocated amount will be used for a project aimed at providing clean drinking water to Gaza’s residents.
This marks the first instance of the Zakat Fund extending aid beyond the Maldives. The ministry emphasized that assisting the Palestinian people aligns with the mission of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and is being carried out under his directive.
The initiative highlights the Maldives’ commitment to supporting global humanitarian efforts, particularly in aiding the Palestinian people during times of crisis.
