President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to rebuilding the Maldives’ economy and driving development initiatives. Speaking to residents of Aa. Mathiveri Island, the President highlighted the government's efforts to lay a strong foundation for economic growth while ensuring citizens’ rights, national sovereignty, and foreign policy objectives align with the people's will.
The President underscored significant economic milestones achieved under his leadership, including ending currency overdrafts and steering the nation away from the brink of bankruptcy. While acknowledging these achievements as intangible, he emphasized their critical role in paving the way for sustainable economic progress. He assured citizens that no cuts would be made to subsidies, Aasandha payments, or retirement benefits, focusing instead on cost-cutting measures to achieve fiscal stability.
Dr. Muizzu outlined his Administration's strategy of addressing long-neglected core issues after stabilizing the economy. He highlighted efforts to tackle vaping and undocumented immigration, citing the success of Maldives Immigration’s "Operation Kurangi" as a testament to these initiatives.
The President identified housing and homeownership as the Administration’s top development priorities, followed by advancements in education and healthcare. Water and sewerage projects rank next, with road infrastructure projects prioritized in areas with completed utility networks. Sports and social initiatives round out the development agenda.
He noted that from 2025 onward, development projects will follow this hierarchy, driving growth in construction and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The President assured residents that these initiatives would deliver tangible benefits, fostering economic prosperity and improving the quality of life across the nation.
