In a significant announcement aimed at advancing the development of North Maalhosmadulu Atoll, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu confirmed that Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry services will be extended to R. Atoll as the next phase of the transportation initiative.

The President made the commitment while addressing the residents of Un’goofaaru Island, emphasizing that the RTL ferry services will be operational in R. Atoll by the end of June 2025, followed by services in B. Atoll by the end of July 2025.

The expansion of the transportation network forms a key part of the government's broader development plans for the region, with the President also highlighting efforts to elevate Un’goofaaru Island into an Urban Centre. He emphasized that the transformation of the island is integral to the National Development Master Plan, which aims to provide exceptional services across all sectors.

Addressing concerns about the delays in ongoing projects, the President reassured the public that the reclamation project for Un’goofaaru Island would be completed as soon as the weather permits. In addition, he unveiled plans for a housing project that will provide 500 new housing units, alongside initiatives to improve the education sector. One of the key goals is to enable single-session schooling on the island, fostering a more efficient and accessible educational environment.

Moreover, President Dr. Muizzu outlined the government's plan to enhance healthcare services, revealing that Un’goofaaru Island Hospital would be upgraded to tertiary standards within three years. This initiative forms part of the Administration’s broader commitment to improving health services for island communities.

The President further emphasized his Administration's non-discriminatory approach to development, ensuring that the needs of all islands, including those in R. Atoll, are met. While not directly included in his current visit, the President assured that efforts are underway to establish a Bank of Maldives (BML) branch on Dhuvaafaru Island, with the facility set to become operational by June 2025.

In addressing key national issues, President Dr. Muizzu shared insights from his recent visit to Estonia, focusing on the government's commitment to tackling corruption through digitalization. He reiterated plans to create a single-window system for public services, which would minimize human interaction and help reduce systematic corruption.

Additionally, the President clarified his administration’s stance on proposed amendments to laws regarding tobacco use, consumption, and sales. He stressed that the goal is not to favor any particular group, but to take a preventive approach to discourage unhealthy habits. He urged the island community to unite and work toward eliminating tobacco use altogether.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Un’goofaaru Island marks a pivotal step in the government’s ongoing development initiatives, with a focus on improving transportation, housing, education, healthcare, and governance. He also reiterated that he and his team, including various Cabinet Ministers, would continue direct consultations with local councils, Women’s Development Committees, and institutional heads to ensure that development priorities are met effectively and efficiently.
