Mr Ali Nizar, who is competing for the position of Addu city Mayor on behalf of Maldivian Democratic party, said that there are 96,000 people supporting the former president Mr Yameen and we cannot assume that they all are having a mental health issue for supporting him.
He said this in regards to an article made from a recent interview he gave to a TV show. Mr. Nizar said that the article was targeting on a small bit of what he mentioned about Mr Yameen, twisting the whole conversation. He also described it as irresponsible journalism. Further highlighting, Mr Nizar said that former president Mr Yameen has supporters even if the current government supporters do not support him, and it cannot be assumed that they are having a mental health issue just because they support Mr Yameen.
During the recent live talk show hosted by Raajje Tv, Mr Nizar talked about former president, Mr Yameen’s presidency in detail and highlighted the abuse towards the detainees against humanity.
The current HEP Mr Ibrahim Solih was elected with 134,182 votes against former president Mr Yameen during the 2018 elections. Mr Yameen lost the elections along with the presidency title with just 95,631 votes.
