Former MDP Chairman Moosa Manik (Reeko Moosa) has accused some members of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) of inciting violence during Thursday's parliamentary session.

The allegation came after the announcement of names of several opposition MDP members who were ordered to leave the Parliament floor following protests during the Presidential Statement by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

In a social media post, Moosa expressed concern over the actions of certain PNC members who allegedly encouraged forcibly removing MDP members from the floor. He stated that when the House announces names, it is the security personnel who should handle the matter, but calling for physical expulsion promotes injustice.

He emphasized that while there have been disputes in past parliamentary sessions, such extreme behavior has never been witnessed. Moosa pointed out that despite disagreements in previous parliaments, there was a sense of unity when it came to maintaining parliamentary decorum. However, he noted that the current parliament appears to have members who promote unjust behavior.

Moosa further highlighted that the MDP remains a strong voice against political maneuvers by the government and is determined to represent the people's voice in Parliament.

The parliamentary session, which marked the first of the year, saw opposition MDP members staging protests as President Muizzu began delivering his Presidential Statement.

Amid the chaos, the Speaker adjourned the session and announced the names of protesting MDP members, instructing them to leave the chamber. The session resumed after the named members exited, allowing the President to continue delivering the statement.

The incident has sparked debates about parliamentary decorum and the ruling party's response to opposition protests.
