The number of tourists from China visiting the Maldives has increased by 41% compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
From January 1 to February 10, a total of 50,330 Chinese tourists arrived in the Maldives, up from 35,654 visitors during the same period in 2023. Chinese visitors now account for 17% of the Maldives’ total tourist arrivals this year.
China remains the largest source of tourists to the Maldives, followed by Russia with 28,465 visitors, Italy with 27,162, and the United Kingdom with 27,154. Germany ranked fifth with 17,318 arrivals, while 13,638 tourists from neighboring India also visited during the period.
Tourism statistics show that 69.4% of visitors—equivalent to 205,172 tourists—chose to stay at resorts, while guesthouses accommodated 25.6%, or 75,706 tourists. Currently, the Maldives has 172 resorts, 793 guesthouses, 154 safari vessels, and 15 hotels in operation.
