President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that individuals who were previously allocated land from the Gulhi Falhu areas, which have not yet been reclaimed, will now receive plots from the already reclaimed area. Registrations for the new land allocations are expected to be completed within the next two to three months.
The announcement was made during President Muizzu’s ongoing tour of South Nilandhe Atoll, while meeting with residents of Meedhoo. During the meeting, the President revealed that the land use plan for Gulhi Falhu had been amended to allow for the allocation of plots from the reclaimed area. He assured residents that marking, demarcating, and handing over the plots would be completed within two to three months, with the exception of the area designated for bridge construction.
In addition, President Muizzu addressed the situation regarding Giraavaru Falhu. He confirmed that his government would cancel the agreement made by the previous administration concerning land reclamation in the area and would assume full responsibility for the reclamation work. The President promised that, once the work is completed, he would fulfill his commitment to those who had been allocated land in the region.
The President also touched on the housing situation, particularly in Uthuru Thila Falhu, and outlined plans to reclaim 125 hectares of the lagoon this year, with completion expected by next year. Furthermore, the reclamation work in the Hulhumalé lagoon is set to be finished by July of this year.
Additionally, President Muizzu addressed concerns regarding the flat allocation list, confirming that the issues surrounding it have been resolved. He assured residents that the list would be published before the end of the week without any further delays.
These announcements come as part of the President’s ongoing commitment to address housing shortages and land allocation issues across the Maldives.
