Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has commenced its first wide-body aircraft operations to two Indian cities—Cochin and Trivandrum.

The airline is now deploying its Airbus A330 for direct flights to these destinations, which were previously served by ATR 72 and Airbus A320 aircraft. The move comes in response to growing passenger demand, particularly during the holiday season, as many travelers visit these cities for medical treatment and other purposes.

Maldivian has stated that it will continue operating the A330 on these routes if demand remains high.

The airline received its wide-body Airbus A330 in January this year, with a seating capacity of 264 passengers. The aircraft is also being used for direct flights to three cities in China, and Maldivian is exploring the possibility of acquiring another wide-body aircraft to expand its services to European destinations.
