Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer has emphasized the importance of security for a country to remain stable and sovereign.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 30th Basic Training Course of Corrections, he highlighted the challenges of maintaining security in prisons, stating that it is a demanding yet essential responsibility.

He noted that security threats have intensified worldwide in the 21st century and that Maldives, as a nation with limited resources, must prioritize security. He pointed out that the country’s open sea borders make it vulnerable, allowing individuals involved in various crimes to enter. He urged the graduates to apply their training effectively to safeguard the nation.

According to Commissioner Zareer, there are currently 996 prisoners in the Maldives' correctional system. He stressed that ensuring security requires faith, honesty, patriotism, and loyalty.

He also praised the dedication of over 700 corrections officers, describing them as national heroes who work tirelessly around the clock to maintain prison security without hesitation.
