A total of 157,813 people across the Maldives have received the Covid-19 vaccine from the nationwide inoculation drive.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 91,279 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine from the greater Male’ region. Out of this, 2,186 people were vaccinated in the last 24 hours.

HPA has also stated that so far 66,534 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine from outside the greater Male’ region. Out of this, 3,984 people were vaccinated in the last 24 hours.

As per the recent statistics, 6,170 people across the Maldives have received the Covid-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours.

The vaccine rollout program kicked off on February 01, with the Covishield vaccine donated by the Indian government. So far, India has donated 200,000 doses of Covishield vaccine to the Maldives.

In addition, Maldives has also received 5,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China. China has pledged to donate 100,000 doses of the same vaccine to the Maldives.

Yesterday, Maldives received 12,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, as the first shipment from the COVAX facility. Maldives received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India, as the first vaccine delivery to the Maldives by the COVAX facility.

COVAX, the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access, is a global initiative aimed at equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (formerly the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, or GAVI), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and others.

The COVAX facility earlier this month announced the allocation of over 330 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines for low- and middle-income countries. It aims to deliver these and millions more in the first half of 2021.
