Former President and opposition coalition advisor, Mr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik fined 1000 MVR for not wearing a mask.

He was fined for going against the guidelines of the Health Protection Agency (HPA) of the Maldives at the rally held by the opposition ‘against selling Maldives’. Mr Waheed was not wearing the mask speaking at the rally in front of the office of Progressive Party of the Maldives.

Since the rally, Maldives Police service has been investigating the case. Upon the investigation, Mr. Waheed was invited to the Police today, and was fined for going against the HPA guidelines. Previously when Mr. Waheed was invited by Maldives Police service, he requested his lawyer to be present for further questioning.

Along with Mr. Waheed, a few oppositions were fined with MVR 1000 who joined in this rally for not wearing masks in public and going against the HPA guidelines. They include president of the opposition party PNC; Mr. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, vice-president of PNC; Mr. Ibrahim Sujau and vice-president of opposition party PPM; Ahmed Shiyam.
