A total of 214,486 people across the Maldives have received the Covid-19 vaccine from the nationwide inoculation drive.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 121,630 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine from the greater Male' region. Meanwhile, 92,856 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine from outside the greater Male’ region.

As per the recent statistics, 1,775 people received the Covid-19 vaccine in the Maldives, in the last 24 hours.

On March 15, HPA concluded the first dose of vaccination for the general public in the greater Male’ area but it will be continued to special categories, starting from March 20. The special categories include elderly, high-risk people, people who are currently positive to Covid-19, or anyone who is currently in quarantine. HPA plans to initiate the vaccination of the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine for the general public in the greater Male’ area from the month of April onwards.

The vaccine rollout program kicked off on February 01, with the Covishield vaccine donated by the Indian government.

In addition to the Covishield vaccine, Maldives have approved vaccines developed by Pfizer BioNTech and Sinopharm, for emergency use. China has already pledged 200,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine to the Maldives, while Maldives is expected to receive the Pfizer vaccine through the WHO Covax facility.
