The US military says an Afghan woman gave birth aboard an Air Force C-17 that flew from the Middle East to Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
The Ramstein Air Base in Germany is being used as a transit post for people being evacuated from Afghanistan.
Sharing about the woman, who went into labor en route to Ramstein Air Base, the US Air Mobility Command said that at one point on the journey, the pregnant woman began having "complications", the thread said. The pilot had to descend in order to increase air pressure on board the plane, "which helped stabilize and save the mother's life".
Once the flight was landed medical personnel boarded the plane and delivered the baby in the aircraft's cargo hold.
“The baby girl and mother were transported to a nearby medical facility and are in good condition,” said the US Air Mobility Command on Twitter.
About 17,000 people have so far been airlifted from the site by the US military, the White House said on Saturday.
