Economic Minister and MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail have said that it is not appropriate to change the system of government in a small country like the Maldives to a parliamentary system.

In response to President Nasheed’s statements during the press conference today on gathering support for his vision of promoting a Parliamentary system, Fayyaz said tonight that he believes the presidential system is the best way to govern the Maldives. The reason is that the presidential system gives all citizens a say, said Fayyaz, further elaborating his opinion.

Speaking at the press today on his work on proposing a Parliamentary system, Nasheed requested support for his visionary and asked everyone to work with him to reform the system and change the administration to parliament. He also highlighted the importance of receiving support from MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail.

However, Fayyaz shared his opinion against Nasheed and denied his support for Nasheed’s vision of changing the system to a parliamentary system.
