95 percent of the finance required for this year's budget has been allocated, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer said.

Speaking at a ceremony at the Foreign Ministry today, Finance Minister Ibrahim Amir said that with the $100 million or MVR 1.5 billion received from India today, 95 percent of the finance required for this year’s budget has been secured. Minister also said that MVR 17 billion has been secured for this year's budget.

So far, India has provided $1 billion (MVR 15.4 billion) in loans and grants to the Maldives, said Minister Ameer. He added that the Maldives is fighting the global economic slowdown with India's assistance.

In his speech, Minister highlighted that the largest construction projects in the Maldives are being carried out under Indian loans and assistance. These projects include the bridge construction between Male’ and Villimale’, the international port development at Gulhifalhu, the Cancer Hospital development in Laamu Gan, and the International Airports development at Seenu Gan and Hanimaadhoo International Airport.
