Authorities have stated that air pollution in Kulhudhuffushi City has increased to a level that threatens public health.

The Met Office stated last week that the air pollution in some parts of Maldives is caused by dust and smoke blown by the wind across the Bay of Bengal. They had advised to be aware of what could happen because of this.

A Met Office media official said the air pollution in Kulhudhuffushi was dangerously high on Friday and that it is a little better now but the air is still more polluted than usual.

Due to the air pollution in Kulhudhuffushi, health officials have advised people to reduce their outdoor activities and wear masks if they are outdoors, to prevent health issues.

Last week, the air in the Male' area too was very polluted.
