During the courtesy call paid to the President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Secretary of State of the United States of America, Michael R. Pompeo, has made a historic announcement regarding the plan to open a U.S Embassy in the Maldives.
Following the discussions with President Ibrahim Solih, US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo has publicly announced the plan to open an Embassy in Male.
Having a U.S embassy in the Maldives will minimize the current challenges faced during visa processing, as well as for the required services for students living in the U.S Currently, for most embassy services, Maldivians have to travel to India or Sri Lanka.
During the courtesy call, the President thanked U.S Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo for the U.S Government’s generous assistance towards the Maldives and the positive engagement with the Maldives on many important bilateral spheres. Ending the call, the President and Secretary affirmed their mutual commitment to work towards strengthening Maldives-US ties.
