The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has collected more than MVR 143 million in taxes in the first week of this month.

While the statistical reports for the first week of this month have been released by MIRA, starting with the first of this month, GST and TGST rates have been raised.

According to the statistics, MVR 143,903,122 (one hundred and forty three million, nine hundred and three thousand, one hundred and twenty two) was received from the 1st to the 7th day of this month.

Out of the revenue received by MIRA, MVR 13.7 million was in GST, MVR 15.9 million was in TGST and MVR 12.8 million in Green Tax.

The largest income came from land rent in the tourism sector. That is MVR 56.4 million.

While tax rates have been increased from the 1st of this month, the tourism sector tax or TGST rate has been increased from 12% to 16%. And tax on non-tourism sectors or GST rate has been raised from 6% to 8%.

The government estimates that the change in GST will add about MVR 3 billion to the state’s revenue.
