Dhaandhoo MP Yaugoob Abdulla has stated last night that it will not be right to bring MDP president Mohamed Nasheed, who is contesting the MDP presidential primary, to power.

Speaking on SanguTV, MDP Parliamentary Group Member Yaugoob Abdulla criticized Nasheed's remarks on Maldives' debt situation, saying Nasheed always wants to declare Maldives' bankruptcy.

Yaugoob said that if Nasheed wins the MDP primary and comes to power, the first thing he will do is declare Maldives as bankrupt. The MP said that if Maldives is declared bankrupt, the situation will become worse than that of neighbouring Sri Lanka.

Yaugoob said that investors in Maldives will leave the country the moment it is declared bankrupt. And that countries will ask Maldives to pay for loans immediately and no country will give another loan needed to run the country.

"Then the whole country is fallen into a pit, the country's businesses become bankrupt. The country's economy collapses. When the country falls into a deep pit, it means that the people have become poor. It will become worse than in Sri Lanka. Maldives is a country that gets everything from the outside to manage," said Yaugoob.

Yaugoob asked whether Maldives should be taken to Sri Lanka's level before it actually happens. He said a person who loves the country would not say such a thing. However, he said that over the past six years, Nasheed has repeatedly talked about the country going bankrupt.

"And so since I love this country, I am saying that it won't be right to bring Nasheed to power in this country. If it happens, the first thing that would be done is to declare the country to be in debt. Then the nation will fall into ruin," Yaugoob said.

The Dhaandhoo MP has called on MDP members to vote for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the MDP primary this month.
