The main opposition party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has stated that former party member and Male' City councillor for Central Henveiru, Adam Rameez was investigated by the Ethics Committee under the orders of party leader Abdulla Yameen.
Adam Rameez resigned from PPM yesterday while he was being investigated.
PPM Vice President and Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam said today that Adam Rameez was investigated after he was accused of undermining the party's presidential candidate's candidacy.
"The President (Yameen) asked that the matter be taken seriously," said Shiyam today.
Shiyam said the presidential candidate has the power to stop any party member from doing anything that would undermine his candidacy.
Adam Rameez' resignation letter has now been circulating on social media. In the letter, Adam Rameez said he would like to be removed from the party register as he is unable to participate in party activities at the moment.
