The Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Former President Mohamed Nasheed in a letter to the Secretariat of the Majlis has said that he would vacate M. Muraidhooge, official residence of the Speaker, on Monday.

In the letter, Nasheed said that he would be shifting to ‘his private residence’, G. Beyruveli. Nasheed also requested the Secretariat to communicate his decision to relevant personnel of the government.

“Mohamed Nasheed said that he would shift from his official residence to his private residence, G. Beyruveli, on June 26”, the letter, signed by Chief Executive to Former President Nasheed, read.

On Monday, in a press briefing held in the Majlis, Nasheed told reporters that he would be vacating his official residence when the 14-day notice that was delivered to him on his no-confidence motion expired.

He further said that he was not a “destitute homeless person in Male’” and that he wanted to move to his family house, G. Kenereege.

“I will vacate on the count of 14 days to my notice”, Nasheed said on Monday.

The notice was delivered to Nasheed by the Secretariat on June 12. The no-confidence motion against Nasheed which was backed by 54 MPs from ruling MDP was filed on June 6. The notice will expire on June 25.
