Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives (ACC) finds zero evidence on allegations that Champa Brothers Maldives Private Limited received illegal money from the notorious MMPRC (Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation) scandal that surfaced during the early part of the previous government which was headed by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

A case filed against Champa Brothers Private Limited at ACC claimed that the company received illegal monies from MMPRC’s corrupt dealings in selling state-owned islands and lagoons for tourism development between 2014 and 2015.

The ACC said yesterday that the commission’s investigations into the accusations against Champa Brothers ended as the case lacked enough evidence, subsequently failing them in passing it for prosecution.

In a statement the ACC said yesterday, “…henceforth, we have decided that this case did not involve criminal components of corruption and money laundering”.

Champa Brothers Private Limited is owned and managed by hoteliers, Champa Mohamed Moosa, his brother Hussein Afeef - a pioneer in Maldivian tourism industry who has stakes in several other companies including the Crown Company, and their family.

Investigations by authorities into MMPRC scandal, showed that more than Rufiyaa 1.22 billion was stolen through its corrupt activities.
