China's CCCC takes the responsibility of maintaining the Sinamalé Bridge for the next five years.
As the agreement made with China, CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company is responsible for the maintenance of the bridge for two years following its construction. As per a government official, following the end of the agreement period, the government has extended the agreement for another five years.
At the foremost, the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure stated that the Maldivian government will take over the reigns of the newly unveiled Sinamale Bridge, after two years of development.
From the 300 million USD spent on the development of the Sinamale’ bridge, the Chinese government had provided USD 100 million as aid, while the rest USD 170 million was given as a loan.
The Sinamale Bridge, which links capital Male and airport island Hulhule, has been in operation since August 30th, 2018.
