MP Ibrahim Shareef – MDP Maradhoo Constituency, alleges that former longtime President Maumoon Abdul Qayoom’s Maldivian Reform Movement (MRM) which still remains in the ruling coalition is an insincere partner and a headache.

MP Shareef also said that MRM does not contribute positively, but causes damage to the ruling coalition where Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is the leader.

MRM which is having trouble maintaining the least required numbers in its membership, could not pose any significant challenge to ruling MDP in any election, says MP Shareef.

MP Shareef said that the ruling coalition will be relieved when MRM officially withdraws its support to the present government.

MRM recently announced that the party will be contesting in the September presidential election independently.

The Elections Commission of Maldives in May decided to dissolve MRM as the party failed in maintaining the membership numbers required by law. Subsequently, in the same month, the Civil Court ordered to halt the dissolution.
