The government's usable reserves stood at $126 million at the end of September, according to Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) statistics.

According to MMA, the government's official reserves stood at $592.7 million at the end of September this year. Usable reserves stood at $126 million at the end of September.

This is a 35 percent decrease compared to September last year. Usable reserves stood at $193 million in September last year.

According to the Finance Ministry's budget, the government's official reserves stood at $832.1 million at the end of last year. The Ministry of Finance estimates that official reserves will stand at $618.4 million by the end of this year.

Usable reserves are the amount remaining after deducting short-term foreign exchange liabilities from the official reserves. The government's usable reserve fell to its lowest level during President Yameen's tenure. In May 2017, the usable reserves fell to $52 million.
