Foreign ministry confirms that Maldives will get onions even if India stops exporting onions.

Yesterday India announced the ban of exporting onions from India, due to limited production of onions in the country. India has reported heavy rainfall in the southern states, leaving crops damaged. Which limited the production of it, hence an increase of price in their local markets.

Meanwhile, foreign ministry of the Maldives has confirmed that through the renewal of quotas for export of essential commodities from India to Maldives, India will continue to export to Maldives, despite the ban on export of onions. The renewal of quotas was announced from a meeting held between the foreign ministers of the 2 countries last month. The renewed quotas for export of essential commodities includes; Rice, Flour, Sugar, Onion, Egg, Potato, lentils, stone aggregates, and river sand.

Foreign minister of India, Dr Jai Shankar confirms that India has increased the quotas on export goods items to Maldives, more than last year. Despite the ban on exporting of some of the items from India, Maldives will continue to receive the agreed goods.
