Government has appealed the dismissed cases against former vice president Mr Adeeb to the high court and Mr Adeeb gives full support to the government at today's hearing at the high court.
The criminal court ruled out the dismissal of the cases against Mr Adeeb, after he told the court that he was forced to sign a plea deal in exchange for medical furlough. The dismissed cases against corruption in Maldives Marketing and Public Relation have been appealed by the government at the high court. The hearing for this appeal was continued today at the high court.
During the court hearing, Adeeb said that he does not have anything to say against the case, although he firmly believes that the case should be under a lower court. Although the criminal court ruled out that Adeeb was forced to sign a plea, he disagreed to this at today's High court hearing. Adeeb also said that he will give full support to the court investigations as he believes the embezzled funds should be returned to the state and the people, while some intentionally benefited through the MMPRC corruptions.
During the High court hearing, the lawyer representing the government said that the criminal court ruling was against the constituency as mutual understanding pleas can be signed in order to further investigate the case.
Today’s hearing concluded without a verdict and if there is nothing further to clarify for the investigation, the next hearing of the High court will announce a verdict. High court has ruled that until the case is closed, Adeeb will be under arrest.
