President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the Maldives, Mariyam Shiuna, has stated that action will be taken, against selling votes at the upcoming Local Council Election (LCE).
In the statement released on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, Ms. Shiuna stated that an opportunity to elect a leader to represent the people is not a license given to sell votes, and the future should be decided, with complete integrity. She also added that selling votes can affect badly in the future, and it should be concerning at all levels.
She also stated that upholding integrity is the only way to act in all the elections.
“During the upcoming Local Council Election, ACC’s goal is to stop selling votes and stop any bribery involved in it and take action against it within the constituency. I advise the candidates and voters to be cautious about it as well,” said Shiuna in her statement.
In addition, Shiuna advised voters to reject any candidates campaigning for votes as a business, if not, the elected persons will act however they want, and in the end, the people will be left unheard.
