Shipping service commenced between Tuticorin and South Maldives welcomes the first ship to Addu city from Thoothukudi, also known by its former name Tuticorin, India.

The first arrival of the cargo ship from the shipping service was docked at the harbor of South International Port, Addu City this Thursday evening at 4:15 pm. The ship was welcomed with a water salute by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).



As per the Maldives State Shipping Company, the cargo ship reached Addu City port carrying over 2,713.34 tonnes of cargo. The cargo carried included construction materials, fruits, and vegetables.

The shipping service was initiated with a local shipping boat MV Bonthi 2, which departed from India on Monday.

The ceremony held to welcome the first cargo shipping service commenced between Tuticorin and South Maldives was joined in by Parliament Member Mohamed Aslam, Managing Director of STO Hussain Amru, and Managing Director of Maldives State Shipping Company Abdulla Saeed.

The first cargo ship from the Maldives-India cargo ferry service reached the northern Maldives, H.Dh Kulhudhuffushi port on Saturday, 26th September, with over 500 tonnes of cargo.
