Former Minister of Islamic affairs, Mr Shaheem
Former Minister of Islamic affairs, Mr Shaheem accused the government of being under corruption and described it as the government being under a disaster of corruption.

Upon realisation of corruption in National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)’s audit report, Mr Shaheem mentioned that these corruption should be investigated, since this has happened at a time of a national crisis. He has added that the people of the Maldives have lost its trust to the current corrupted government and the government is under a disaster of corruption. Mr Shaheem also said that a proper investigation must be done, and a proper investigation can only be done after arresting the management of NDMA and the Finance Minister for approving the finances of NDMA.

The Auditor General has announced the investigation for corruption involvement from NDMA and the Finance Ministry.

The NDMA audit report shows that the money spent on accommodation arrangements for the frontliners goes against the guidelines, as there were no pre agreements on such arrangements with the guest houses. While paying for these guest houses NDMA has not checked on how many rooms and services were used from these guest houses. NDMA has spent 16.7 million Maldivian Rufiya for this, and guest houses have charged different rates along with services which were not taken.

Moreover, the audit report showed payments made to a resort taken for a covid facility, more than the agreed rate. Which is then elaborated in the audit report, as the payment included TGST. The government pre-agreed rate for covid facilities is 750 MVR for each room. Hence, for this facility, the government has paid 12% more than the planned budget.

NDMA is operated under the supervision of the Defence Minister, Ms. Mariya Didi.
