Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a significant enhancement to its payment services with the introduction of Weixin Pay, also known as WeChat Pay, on its Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal network. This move allows merchants to accept QR payments from the popular Chinese app, expanding convenience and accessibility for customers.

Previously, WeChat Pay was exclusively available on the BML Payment Gateway. Now, with its integration into the Bank's POS network, merchants, particularly those at Velana International Airport's duty-free shopping, can seamlessly process payments through WeChat Pay.

Moosa Nimal, the Bank's Director of Retail, Business & SME Banking, expressed the significance of this rollout, stating, "By accepting WeChat Pay on the Bank’s POS network, we are paving the way for more than 1 billion active users of the Weixin & WeChat platform to make payments at merchants across Maldives." He emphasized the Bank's commitment to enhancing payment experiences for both customers and merchants, providing them with flexibility and convenience in choosing their preferred payment methods.

As the leading provider of merchant payment solutions in the Maldives, BML offers a comprehensive range of products and services tailored to different business segments and customer preferences. In addition to WeChat Pay, the Bank accepts payments from all major debit and credit cards, including American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Union Pay, as well as digital wallets like BML Pay, Ali Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
