President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed Hassan Zareer as the Commissioner General of Taxation for the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) during a special ceremony held at the President's Office this morning.
Hassan Zareer brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked in various tax and audit-related positions since 2000. His most recent roles included serving as the Director of Finance (Group Shared Financial Services) and Group Chief Compliance Officer at Villa Shipping and Trading Company Pvt. Ltd. Additionally, he was the Chairman of the Bank of Maldives from March 7, 2024, to May 23, 2024. Zareer has also previously served as the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.
Zareer holds a Bachelor of Accounting and a Master of Science in Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He is also a Fellow Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA, CGMA) in the UK and a Certified Practicing Accountant in Australia.
