Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, has stated that the number of tourist arrivals met the estimated target mentioned in the Parliament report regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Parliament report developed in regards to the Covid-19 pandemic estimated that even in the worst-case situation from the pandemic, Maldives will see 450,134 tourist arrivals in the year 2020. But the estimated number of tourist arrival was crossed over by 100,000 more tourists by the end of the year 2020. The report also estimated 641,921 tourist arrival for the year 2021.

In a tweet this Saturday, Nasheed has said that the Parliament had estimated the number of tourist arrivals between 450,000 and 641,000 tourist arrivals for the years 2020 and 2021.

Meanwhile, the number of tourist arrival went over than government estimation. As per the recent statistics of the Ministry of Tourism, 555,231 tourists arrived in the Maldives by the end of the year 2020.

Since the border reopening on July 15, 172,366 tourists arrived in the Maldives.
