Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef’s official visit to France incurred a cost of MVR 1.3 million, according to the President's Office.
Vice President was in Paris from July 24 to 29 to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, following an invitation from the International Olympic Committee.
According to the President's Office, the total expenditure for the visit amounted to MVR 1,344,127.04 (One million three hundred forty-four thousand one hundred twenty-seven Maldivian Rufiyaa and four laari).
The President's Office highlighted the significance of this year’s Olympics for the Maldives, marking the first time a Maldivian athlete has qualified for the tournament. During the visit, Vice President explored opportunities to develop Maldivian athletes and sports facilities, given France's prominent status in global sports.
The Vice President took the opportunity to introduce the Maldives to world leaders and athletes in the realm of sports tourism through this high-profile event. He met with athletes following the opening ceremony to offer encouragement and support, provided necessary facilities, and observed some matches.
Additionally, Vice President engaged with foreign ministers during the Commonwealth Sports Ministers' Meeting held in conjunction with the Olympics and also interacted with Maldivian students in France to discuss solutions to their challenges.
This year’s Olympics saw five Maldivian athletes participate, marking the largest representation from the Maldives in the event’s history.
