The Ministry of Education has announced that the schools will commence the second term to complete the academic year 2020.

The Ministry has stated that as previously confirmed, the schools will commence on January 10. Hence classes starting from preschool LKG to grade 10 will begin their education of the second term from the academic year 2020, and the second term will conclude on June 24.

The Ministry has also stated that the classes will continue guidelines set for the new normal. In return, some schools will have classes in a single session for five days a week, while some schools will have classes in two sessions for five days a week. For schools without enough space, sessions will continue every other day. As per the Ministry, if the curriculum is not yet covered, online sessions will be conducted.

Under the new normal, for students in preschool and foundation stage, classes will be conducted for a minimum of two hours, and for grades above it, classes will commence for four hours to five hours.

Due to COVID-19, Maldives has closed all the schools and continued classes through teleclass, online google classroom, and Viber. But in July, all the schools reopened, and in all the islands other than the greater Male' area, continued studies from grade 1 - 12 classes while in Male' City, studies were continued from grade 7 to grade 12. The first term of the academic year 2020 was concluded on December 3.
