(This is a series of articles, translated from the 'Dhivehi Thaareekh' book compiled by a committee appointed by Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin VI in 1902 AD / 1320 AH to write the history of the Maldives in Dhivehi language.)

The martyrdom of King Ali and the seizing of power by An'dhiri An'dhirin took place on the first of Sha'ban 965 AH (May 19, 1558 AD).

The infidels took over and remained in power. Their persecution and pillage of people's property escalated. They began to rape Muslim women. They didn't mind whether it was an unmarried or married woman. This tyranny continued for 15 years. Their oppression expanded across the Maldives, and dread gripped the hearts of both locals and foreigners, causing severe hardship.

Then, when Allah the Almighty willed to destroy the rule of the infidels and save the Muslims from their oppression, He inspired Muhammad Khatheeb Thakurufaanu, son of Hussain Khatheeb Thakurufaanu of Utheemu, to fulfill the obligation of war and liberate the Maldives from the hands of the infidels. Then Muhammad Khatheeb Thakurufaan performed the Istikhara prayer (a prayer to seek divine guidance) and made dua for Allah to grant victory and consulted with his two brothers, Ali Khatheeb Thakurufaan and Hassan Khatheeb Thakurufaan. Afterwards, the three brothers agreed to wage war.

With such a small handful of people, they prepared for battle. They set out for Maliku (Minicoy), which was under the protection of Ali Raja of Cannanore (Kannur), packing weapons, food, and clothing onto a fast-sailing boat (the famous Kalhuoffummi), together with their wives and children. There they found refuge for their wives and children.

In Maliku, they encountered two Maldivian men who had returned from Arabia. They were brothers. The elder was named Ali Haji, while the other was named Hassan Haji. They were renowned for their skill with the lance and were experts at wielding the weapon. They had left for Hajj before the infidels invaded the Maldives. Muhammad Khatheeb Thakurufaan spoke with them about liberating the Maldives. Everyone agreed, and they chose Muhammad Khatheeb Thakurufaan as their leader. They pledged to Allah that they would never abandon him, oppose him, or turn their backs on him.

Then, after entrusting themselves to Allah, they came to the Maldives to fight against the infidels. At night, they would raid the islands, killing any infidels they found, loading their boats with food supplies, and leaving before dawn. They would sail until their boats were out of sight of the enemy and spend the day at sea. When darkness fell again, they would once more raid the islands.

While doing this, one night they landed on Thakandhoo. Ali Khatheeb Thakurufaanu separated from the group and stayed at one of his wive's house, where he fell asleep. As dawn approached, the others quickly departed with the boat.

When daylight came, Ali Khatheeb Thakurufaanu was hiding in the house where he had slept. The infidels on the island discovered this, entered the house, dragged him out, beheaded him, and sent his head to An'dhiri An'dhirin. Then, the Muslims on the island buried his body there. The Muslims in Male' retrieved his head from the infidels and buried it in Funadhoo.

The remaining four warriors continued to fight. Then all the Christians gathered in Male' and prepared for battle, walking around Male' watching for the Muslim warriors to arrive. Then Bodu Thakurufaanu arrived near Male', but seeing that the infidels were very alert, he could not find a way to enter Male'. So thinking to catch the infidels off guard, he went to Cannanore.

Bodu Thakurufaanu went to Cannanore and requested assistance from Ali Raja, asking him to send some of his soldiers with him to the Maldives. Then, agreeing to this, Ali Raja sent a group of Malabari soldiers from his army. Then, taking these men with him, he departed from Cannanore port. The night they arrived near Male' was a night when the infidels were plotting an evil plan. Their plan was to gather all the Muslims in Male' the next day, convert them to Christianity, and kill anyone who refused.

That night, the Muslims in Male', concerned about the situation, gathered at the house of Abu Bakuru Fan'diyaaru Kaleygefaanu, the son of Dhon Korali Fan'diyaaru Kaleygefaanu, who was the son of Faamuladheyri Ismail Sharafuddin Fan'diyaaru Kaleygefaanu. (Fan'diyaaru Kaleygefaanu is the title for the Chief Judge.) They all pledged not to leave Islam, not to go to the infidels, not to prostrate to idols, and if forced to do these things, to fight the infidels and die for Islam.

They collected whatever weapons they could find, such as swords, lances, large knives, sticks, and arrows. Then they recited Fatiha and Salawat, making vows to recite Maulood at Medhu Ziyaaraiy every year if Bodu Thakurufaanu arrived in Male' that night before sunrise, and prayed to Allah to keep them steadfast in their faith.

Then, after two-thirds of the night had passed, Bodu Thakurufaanu's boat arrived and anchored at the Male' harbor. While the infidels were in a state of negligence, Bodu Thakurufaanu and his companions disembarked in Male' and approached the palace of Andhiri An'dhirin. An'dhiri An'dhirin was sitting on a throne inside the palace gate, surrounded by his close associates. They were in the light of an oil lamp. Bodu Thakurufaanu drew his gun, fired at An'dhiri An'dhirin, then stepped back and took cover behind a tree. The bullet from his gun hit An'dhiri An'dhirin, killing him, and as he fell and died, he fired his gun, sending a bullet in the same direction from whence it came.

The infidels then took out their guns and started shooting at the Muslims. The Muslims responded by shooting back and assaulting the infidels with spears. By the grace of Allah, He protected the Muslims. The battle between the two sides intensified, and the infidels were defeated, and all of them were killed. Then the Muslims rejoiced over this victory.

The faces of the Muslims, who were oppressed in the island under the control of the infidels, lit up with joy as they came to Bodu Thakurufaanu, kissed his blessed hand, and prayed for the longevity of his reign and life. He treated them kindly and kept each person in their respective positions. He then sat on the throne when the people swore allegiance to him as their king.

An'dhiri An'dhirin was killed, and Bodu Thakurufaanu ascended to the throne on 1st Rabi' al-Awwal 981 AH (July 1, 1573 AD). An'dhiri An'dhirin had ruled for 15 years and 6 months.
