The High Court schedules sentencing for the appeal request by former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who was charged and imprisoned for money laundering.

President Yameen was press charged for taking the money paid from the leased Island, Ga. Vomadula, rather than depositing it to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The money received from the leased island was transferred to the personal accounts of President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, from a private company under the name S.O.F. President Yameen was then charged, with money laundering, and he was imprisoned for five years with a penalty of 5 million USD.

The case was then appealed at the High Court by President Yameen, and court sentencing was pending after the court hearings.

In regards to the court appeal, the High Court media official has announced that the High Court has scheduled the court sentencing for the Ex-President’s appeal request for January 14.
