The Ministry of Higher Education, Labor, and Skills Development has announced that it has disbursed MVR 103 million this year for government-funded scholarships aimed at supporting higher education.
In a press conference today, Minister of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, Dr. Maryam Mariya explained that scholarship funds are allocated in US dollars or in the local currency of the country where the student will be studying. Disbursements are made in two primary ways: by transferring payments directly to educational institutions or by depositing funds into bank accounts opened by students in their host countries for other expenses.
With a significant number of students departing for studies abroad in September, the ministry has increased its efforts to process these transactions swiftly, including working through holidays. According to the ministry, on a single day this month, the ministry reported that over USD 170,000 was distributed to students.
This surge in funding reflects the ministry's commitment to supporting Maldivian students pursuing higher education internationally and locally.
