Former Vice-President of Parliament, (Reeko) Moosa Manik, has called for government companies to provide subsidized travel options to make transportation more affordable for Maldivians.
He posted his statement on X following the launch of international bunkering services, emphasizing the potential economic benefits for the northern region.
Moosa stressed the importance of affordable travel through the national airline, MTCC, and MIFCO, noting that reduced prices would encourage more people to travel and stimulate business in the north.
Domestic airfares were reduced under the previous government but later increased due to significant financial losses reported by Island Aviation. Moosa emphasized that, with proper subsidies, these services could once again become more affordable for the public.
