Multiple positive cases reported from school have caused distress over the community.

The Ministry of Education reopened the schools on January 10 under new-normal guidelines. Including checking the temperature at the entrance, mandatory wearing of masks, and washing hands.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has informed that this week a student from Jamaluddin School and a teacher from Gazee School have reported positive to Covid-19. Four students have been identified as contact with the grade 09 student who was Covid-19 positive from Jamaluddin School. Meanwhile, 12 teachers from Gazee School have been identified as direct contact with the teacher, who was Covid-19 positive.

Previously, a foreign teacher from Aminiya School was also reported positive to Covid-19. As per the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), teachers identified as contacts linked to this case were quarantined.

As per the new-normal guidelines set by the Education Ministry, preschool and foundation stage students, classes are conducted for a minimum of two hours, and for grades above it, classes began for four hours to five hours.


Due to COVID-19, Maldives has closed all the schools and continued classes through teleclass, online google classroom, and Viber. In July, all the schools reopened in all the islands other than the greater Male' area, and continued studies from grade 1 - 12 classes. But in Male' City, schools reopened and continued studies for grade 07 to grade 12 students.
