Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has called on the people of Maldives to stay united in national affairs, even if political differences exist. Speaking in an interview with Public Service Media (PSM) on the occasion of Victory Day, Gayoom emphasized the importance of collective solidarity.

“Unity is crucial in matters of national importance,” Gayoom remarked. “While political disagreements may arise, we must prioritize national unity. The people of Maldives have repeatedly shown their resilience and unity in critical moments, achieving remarkable outcomes together.”

Reflecting on the bravery demonstrated by Maldivians during the terrorist attack on November 3, 1988, Gayoom highlighted the courage of the Maldivian people and armed forces in defending the country. He added that the courage and determination shown by the Maldivian army and citizens on that day serve as a powerful example for today’s generation.

He also noted that the patience and unity displayed during past challenges continue to set a valuable precedent, urging Maldivians to maintain this spirit of cooperation in the future.
