President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the people of the Maldives to set aside political differences and unite in developing a National Development Plan for the next 20 years. Speaking at the inauguration of the master plan consultation at a ceremony on Wednesday, he emphasized the importance of national cooperation in creating a plan that would benefit future generations.

During his address, President Muizzu announced a broad consultation process, seeking input from all regions and sectors. He encouraged political parties and all sectors of society to prioritize the country's future over partisan views, emphasizing that the development plan was not political but aimed at securing a prosperous future for the next generation.

“I urge all sectors, including political parties, to participate in this endeavor without political bias,” President Muizzu said. He also underscored the need to focus on modern technology and the digital economy in the master plan, calling for solutions to the nation's most pressing challenges.

Following the President’s address, a panel discussion commenced, featuring participants from various backgrounds, including parents, educators, students, civil society members, and people with special needs. This inclusive approach seeks to capture diverse perspectives, ensuring the development plan reflects the aspirations of all Maldivians.

The government aims to finalize the consultation phase of the master plan within a year and has committed to a constitutional amendment to grant the plan legal authority. This step, according to President Muizzu, will solidify the development plan as a guiding framework for the Maldives’ long-term progress.
