President Mohamed Muizzu has asserted that no one will be allowed to add names to the list of beneficiaries for the 4,000 housing units being developed by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC).
President Muizzu made these remarks in response to questions from a member of the People's National Congress (PNC) on a WhatsApp group.
In the group chat, President Muizzu responded to concerns raised by Thoddoo South MP Mohammed Alson, who had inquired whether the list of beneficiaries would be shared with parliament members before being made public. President Muizzu firmly stated that he would not allow any Members of Parliament or other influential figures to interfere with the flat allocation process.
President Muizzu, who is currently in Baku, Azerbaijan, to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), emphasized that the final list of beneficiaries would only include the top candidates based on the awarded points. "I will not give any opportunity to put a name on the list at the request of anyone. I will not give any opportunity in this position to make the mistakes people once made. Sorry," he stated, affirming his commitment to maintaining a transparent and fair process.
The announcement aligns with recent statements from Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed, who revealed that a provisional list of recipients for the 4,000 housing units being developed by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) in the second phase of the Hulhumalé housing project will be released soon. The provisional list is expected next week, allowing beneficiaries an opportunity to submit complaints before finalizing the list. According to Minister Haider, the housing units are planned to be handed over to the selected recipients before the end of the year.
With this decision, President Muizzu aims to ensure that the housing allocation process remains free from external influence, safeguard the integrity of the program, and uphold public trust in government-led housing initiatives.
