Among the famous actors in Egypt is an actor who gained popularity in the Egyptian film industry under the name Emad Hamdy. Born on November 24, 1909, in Sohag, Egypt, Emad Hamdy's real name was Muhammad Imaduddin Hamdy. His father was Abdul Hamid Hamdy, an engineer. His mother was Amina, the younger daughter of a former Iranian consul, Abdul Rahman Kami Bey, and his French wife.

When Emad Hamdy and his twin brother were born, his father, Abdul Hamid Hamdy, asked his wife, Amina, about names for the children. Amina suggested naming the first child Abdul Rahman, after her father. While Amina was thinking about a name for the second child, Abdul Hamid said he would be named Muhammad Imaduddin. Amina did not object. Instead, she was very pleased and happy with the name. The reason was that it was the name of Amina's beloved sister Sharifa's noble husband and former Maldivian king, Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin.

In an interview given to an Egyptian newspaper, Emad Hamdy said that his father named him Muhammad Imaduddin after his aunt's husband, the former Maldivian king Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin, because of his good character and high moral standards. And he hoped that Emad would also acquire such qualities like Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin.

The former Maldivian king Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin VI, or commonly known as Haji Imaduddin, who lived in Egypt, was the king who ruled the Maldives for about 10 years from 1893 to 1903 AD. This king is famous in history for losing his throne while visiting Egypt for his wedding in Suez.

After his Hajj pilgrimage in 1901, Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin went to Egypt, where he met Emad Hamdy's aunt Sharifa and fell in love with her. He decided to marry her and returned to Male', where he began building a house in the courtyard of the Grand Palace to accommodate her. This house is 'Usgekolhu,' and can still be seen in Sultan Park today. Then, leaving his elder brother, Maandhoogey Dhothee Manippulhu, as regent to run the kingdom, he left for Egypt in November 1902.

A political revolt erupted in Male' not long after Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin sailed to Suez, Egypt, to marry. While the regent, Maandhoogey Dhorhee Manippulhu, was at his wife's residence outside the Grand Palace, Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddin III, who had briefly occupied the throne before Haji Imaduddin, was reinstated to the throne.

After losing his throne while in Egypt, Haji Imaduddin's attempts to regain the kingdom were unsuccessful, and he had to spend the rest of his life in Egypt. However, he received a special pension from the Maldivian government.

Haji Imaduddin had a daughter named Daulat Imaduddin from his marriage to Sharifa in Egypt. His other children were from his previous marriages in Male'. Some of their descendants have spread to Egypt, Maldives, and some other countries around the world.

Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin (Haji Imaduddin) was the second son of Prince Hassan Izzuddin (Maandhoogey Bodu Dhorhee Manippulhu), who was the son of Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin IV (Muskuḷi Bandaarain), who was the son of Sultan Muhammad Muinuddin I, who was the son of Sultan Hassan Nooraddin I, who was the son of Sultan Hassan Izzuddin (Dhon Bandaarain) of the Huraa Dynasty.

The Egyptian actor named after Sultan Muhammad Imaduddin, Muhammad Imaduddin Hamdy (Emad Hamdy), was a famous artist active in Egyptian cinema from 1945 until his death on January 28, 1984. He married four times. He had children from two of these marriages. His two children are Nadir Hamdy and Hisham Hamdy.
