The Elections Commission has begun investigating the issue of members from other parties being admitted to the ruling People's National Alliance (PNC).
The issue of members from other parties being admitted to the PNC was first highlighted by the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The MDP has called on the EC to investigate the matter.
Subsequently, former President Yameen's party, PNF, has also raised the issue.
When "Ras" inquired about this, an EC official said that the matter is currently under investigation. However, no further details were provided.
Elections Commission member Hassan Zakariyya previously stated that the issue of submitting fraudulent forms is always present, but it is less frequent now compared to before.
Zakariyya said that a permanent solution to this issue would come when parties can fill out membership forms through eFaas. He also mentioned that they are working on implementing this system.
